Set in a high-medieval, fantasy world with a strong emphasis on realism, Spriggan explores a land transformed by an asteroid carrying the Harmonomorphis lifeform, a source of psychic abilities perceived as arcane magic. This lifeform is the root of the mysterious nightly abductions that disrupt the peace, plunging the stronghold into crisis.

In Spriggan, you are but one cog in a larger machine, where strategy and experience are your only tools—there are no shortcuts. Player agency is central, and every action carries weight; you will die. Yet, why should one death be the downfall of your stronghold? A less qualified citizen may replace you until your economy crumbles under the rising pressure of nightly attacks and lack of combat-ready knights, archers or engineers to fortify your defences. Coordinating your resources wisely, overseeing your food production and researching vital technologies call for careful decision making. Even so, an attack is imminent, pick up arms and defend the volatile crystals in your castle’s keep- If the husk of a Spriggan reaches them, the resulting explosion of the minerals will end us all. We are to survive as many nights as possible to exploit the minerals and explore the Island to unveil the arcane source to bring an end to this madness; if all fails and new men aren't inbound by night, it may be in our best interest to abandon the settlement and flee in shame, rather than dying with honour.

You find yourself on a lush island located in the Gravestone Archipelago, a few hundred miles from the coast of France. The Duskwatch order, a paramilitary group born out of the ashes of the Hanseatic league, deployed you to maintain control of the struggling bastion of Caelheim. Ever since the order reintroduced the extraction of exotic minerals on the island, reports of paranormal activities increased tenfold.

Luckily, more reinforcements will eventually put an end to this, right?

The first disturbances were met with disbelief. Who would believe the drunken ramblings of a disgruntled miner, the tales of giant serpents a sailor spins or a scared child's imagination? But as trees moved in unusual ways, rock formations shifted, and pets and livestock went missing overnight, the shock of the escalating incidents began to set in.

After a month of ever-increasing incidents, the governor of Caelheim, pressured by his citizens, decided to order the construction of further watchtowers and the increase of guard duty, a sign of the growing tension.

It seemed like a futile effort, as the urgency in the city officials' voices was palpable. They called out for further reinforcements, sending urgent summons to order quarters on the coast of Portugal, a sign of the impending danger.

Escalating Incidents

In Spriggan, you tread in the footsteps of the ancients, a mysterious civilization that once ruled the land. Only a few decades before the collapse of their empire, the Romans sought to extract valuable gemstones by bringing pagan enslaved people from Britannia. However, with no records of their withdrawal nor any cargo leaving the island, their fate is lost to time.

Centuries later, officials of the Duskwatch Order obtain Roman manuscripts, suggesting the Greavestone Archipelago possesses a bountiful reserve of ores and minerals, assets of immense importance for the financially struggling order. This discovery, after a millennium of dormancy, was a beacon of hope.

And with those excavations, new challenges arose.

Daytime Strategy: Build, Manage & Defend

The world is a 2x3 km island. On the east side, there is a sizeable inlet where a big river flows into, which the player starts at. In the next 300 meters west, there is the central “city” that stretches alongside the north side of a windy river, which the player plays in. To the north of the city are highland meadows and seaside cliffs, to the south, there are meadows and light forests and rivers originating from a mountain lake 1/3 from the west shore of the map, to the southwest, there is a semi-mountainous highland area, and to the northwest, there is a dark, brooding forest area.
